But I am wondering, is it because it seems like a misappropriation of a piece from a designer which is known for an 'edgier' aesthetic, and it's being listed with the likes of "Miu Miu?" Or, do you just think there is too much layering going on? If it is because of the former, I would just like to say that I am not a badass or consider myself to be 'edgy' so I'd rather have the piece make sense in the context of my life, rather than the other way around.

Thanks for the comments, I wonder what they would have been if I had worn sandals.Life is a hiiighway

to be honest I think its a bit of both - it looks out of place with an otherwise fairly classic ensemble (straight trousers, button up etc), but it also seems awkward in terms of layering."AVANT GUARDE HIGHEST FASHION. For me, eatbabies, it's that the proportions look off and the layering makes it look a bit "christmas tree"ish. There's no functional basis for wearing a short jacket over an, em, overcoat, and while form shouldn't necessarily always follow function, it mostly should.

^Both extremely fair arguments. Johnny, I don't know if calling me a Christmas tree was a good thing, I'm likely to be the only person on earth to take that as a compliment.
As far as clothing, I'm having fun with it. Seeing what I can and cannot get away with is how I've learned/how I'm learning. If they are mistakes, they are my mistakes.
Besides, I always have Prince to remind me to keep on strutting:

Meh, I like it or at least what it attempts to do in bringing different elements together. I find layering elements very hard to pull off and I think I see where it's going.
As such, I don't get some of the negativity, though it's not what I'd wear myself... quite frankly, a lot of the costumish hyperstylized faux-intellectual Victorian Chimney Sweep garb that gets people creaming their pants around here rarely does much for me except make me think of Marie Antoinette playing "peasant" around the gardens of Versailles.Last edited by rach2jlc; 04-11-2009, 11:12 AM.
