Originally posted by merzfunny you should say this, beau.. i always pointed out how kunk's aesthetic always reminded me of stuff in bilal's 'beast' quadrilogy..someone should post up good-quality scans of that in the 'inspirations' thread, by the way..
take a look at this, by the way..
dude on the right is steezing some crazy jointed poell number, kunk-style.
I think you're right in that Kunk's look is reminiscent of Bilal's stuff, but it all comes from an earlier time, I would say, I'm not going to try to pinpoint anything, but I would say a long long time ago, consider Egyptian hieroglyphs showing the most important figures as towering over their entourage. It's much older than the glorified broomstick (not meant in any offense to you, or any other SZ member). Interesting how the two interact nowadays as far as power relations- maybe it has something to do with globalization, people like Bruce Lee, etc, popularizing strength minus the stature. European underwear models versus sexualized asian boys in DH.
But again, fuck, Bilal comes through. I love the fantasy and science fiction element all these great designers unwittingly(?) have.. Someone earlier mentioned a series called Ergo Proxy, I checked it out, and apart from being entertaining and inspiring, the outfits were like a mix of Pugh and Gaultier. Or maybe someone else, I don't know, but I do know I liked them. Once again, I've gotten ahead of myself and posted too much in the wrong place.

I never understood why anyone would belittle a muscular man. From a medical perspective, obviously it's better to be physically fit than to deliberately decrease intake to be waifer-thin. I can respect someone who works hard to be in shape a lot more than a chronic dieter who religiously watches every piece of bread just to stay thin.

I think it's that people see runway models, enjoy what they see on the runway, and want to emulate that look in the best way they can, since that's the archetype.
But I do like the idea that clothing does look better when the wearer is slightly skeletal (depending on what clothing it is, of course!) and the clothing becomes the outer body, replacing skin and muscle. It's nice to remove what one might call extraneous parts and ambiguities, heh heh.
Merz: To be totally honest, I have no hard copies of my Bilal stuff, it's all in digital format. I could try to find it and upload images, if it pleaseth the forum.
If I ever started a clothing line, my first main piece would be something similar to a Bilal coat, the mainstay of which would be the strange, pockmarked texture.Originally posted by philip nodsomebody should kop this. this is forever.

90% of the posts over the weekend need to be hard deleted or moved to "chat edition". I come to this thread to see what people are wearing and look for inspiration, not to see page after page of people arguing. Sorry, but it's not the type of thing I expected on this forum, I thought it was different. Let's leave all this to the other crappy forums. Just my 2 cents...

If there is no argument or critical insight, how do we expect to remain different from other forums? We'd just degrade into back patting and stagnation. I've learned to like the back and forth conversations over your typical high-fashion pornography that one might expect to find in post after post here.Originally posted by philip nodsomebody should kop this. this is forever.

what sucks is argument without critical insight. we need criticism/opinion, but it needs to be criticism like how a knowledgeable "critic" would be. not like how an ass would be. mona hit it on the head. anyway whatever there's enough solid posters here that this'll be back on track in no time.
but this has gone on too long. first the unfortunate thomas.buckler/mike lowery shit now whatever this shit was (i skipped most of it).dying and coming back gives you considerable perspective

We're all beautiful snowflakes.
The carebear pic is hilarious. Thanks for the laugh at the end of a long day at work.let us raise a toast to ancient cotton, rotten voile, gloomy silk, slick carf, decayed goat, inflamed ram, sooty nelton, stifling silk, lazy sheep, bone-dry broad & skinny baffalo.
