wish I could find leftovers like that somewhere, seems like all the wood I can find is either rotten or too new

maybe I will rent a truck and drive there
there aren't much demo sites, especially old buildings. I've looked from scrapyards and made some finds, but nothing great."AVANT GUARDE HIGHEST FASHION. Beautiful frame Christian!
The last time I tried to fit an old vintage frame with a mirror the price to get a custom cut was astounding. They wanted something like $ 600.00 for a 6 x 4 foot section. The bulk of the cost was to cut & polish I assume, Are you facing a similar pricing?

that sounds expensive, large basic mirrors at some generic furniture stores cost around $30-50 so the glass itself can't be that expensive, though having it cut in a custom size of course adds to the cost.
I've been thinking of making a mirror by buying one of the shelf and then making the frame to match its size. but in your case with the vintage frame, it might be difficult as you'd need to find the exact same size. maybe try asking another place?"AVANT GUARDE HIGHEST FASHION. Thats a good idea buy a cheaper one that is pre cut.
Apparently there are varying qualities in mirrors and the nicer ones that do not distort or have a variation in the reflection are way more expensive. Keep us posted on how yours works out , I really like the stuff you have made this far

I'd go with the 8cm. the cross idea is very cool"AVANT GUARDE HIGHEST FASHION. NOW NOW this is it people, these are the brands no one fucking knows and people are like WTF. they do everything by hand in their freaking secret basement and shit."

Nice work, C!
8cm looks great for the top, left and top right. But for the bottom right, the angle gives the illusion of it being wider than it really is.let us raise a toast to ancient cotton, rotten voile, gloomy silk, slick carf, decayed goat, inflamed ram, sooty nelton, stifling silk, lazy sheep, bone-dry broad & skinny baffalo.

Grooves
You're right, I'm still hesitating between 7 and 8.
Did the grooves for the mirror, it's been a hard work, since none of the wood beams is map :
And I checked that all the four grooves were exactly on the same level by inserting a wood matrix, which has the same dimensions and thickness as the mirror :
Looks like it works, but the matrix is more flexible than the mirror will be, and the angles are not fixed yet. Let's see...Last edited by Chant; 03-28-2010, 04:12 PM.
