Boston manhole explosions knock out power

BOSTON—A number of manhole explosions caused by electrical malfunctions in Boston's Theater District knocked out power and forced the closure of several roads in the area.


The explosions Monday morning knocked out power to traffic lights and to some buildings in the area, and are expected to force detours during the morning commute.
Firefighters started to evacuate an area hotel that had smoke in the basement, but guests and workers were allowed back in after it was deemed safe.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Electrical crews are on the scene.
