from the series bastille day...
portraits of strangers, up close..
fyi ftb, this was shot on a mamiya 6 (a rangefinder). you can't get closer than 3ft with most rangefinders. and no macro shots are possible. if you want to shoot tight portraits that fill the frame or closer, you need to get a SLR..

^^, this picture, if you look closely, is a perfect example of random elegance.
i remember one time assisting on a shoot. we were photographing this monstrosity of a dress that was shedding feathers all over the place. being a noob at the time, i thought to quickly gaffers tape the floor and pick up all the little bits that fell. i was immediately scolded and didn't understand why. later on, i was told whatever happens in the picture should be left untouched. if it falls, then let it fall.
so going back to this picture. whatever algorithm nature used to set dirt on the floor, the scuffed up heart above the L-shaped burnt turd, the captn' crunch-sized morsels of dog poop, the dewy "i heart ny coffee cup" picture, the s-shaped metal wire, the cigarette butt. you really have to appreciate the nature of things because no person can ever re-create it as perfectly as this..
and if thom browne never existed..

interest1 - that's the New York shot...i can imagine some caffeine-jacked design team saving that pic into their 'inspiration' folder already...
snafu - second pic is eerie elegance
endersgame - very well observed insights in that anecdote.
lazy sunday sights...
