ftb, have you seen Gerhard Richter's Atlas?
he uses photography in his work much like you do, but he's not just borrowing the picture, he's turning it into something completely different..
some of his work are illusions of the original..
and sometimes he paints right over the picture, but still revealing bits of the original..
i think when you photograph a picture from either magazine or newspaper, you are scrapbooking like what richter does-but you're just doing it digitally. you can use these pictures in your work but you need to depart from the original and build a new image of your very own. the original should just be a reference or a launching pad to something else- it shouldn't be a crutch to depend on for the basis of your work.
naw meen?

beautiful scarf ssuzie! and the chunky knit sweater/dress is better on you then a hanger
i guess i'll reveal my ignorance of richter's scrapbooking method but i do the same thing when i see stuff i like, or images with something that stands out and i wanna capture but not necessarily like in the original form. but i always always state its editorial and give credit where its due (e.g. where its from though i should be more diligent and less lazy and look up the photographer as well) there is one particular one that i took and was forever in my flickr but recently got tumbled a few times.you stole my signature :insert mad face:
