Firefighters battled a stubborn building fire in the International District on Tuesday.

The fire started in the top floor of the three-story building in the 600 block of S King St. and spread throughout.

Firefighters took a defensive stance in fighting the fire, using multiple hose lines, including two aerials.

The building houses businesses on the ground floor. The top floors were vacant. Fire officials confirmed that the building was the site of the Wah Mee massacre in 1983, where 13 people were murdered.

Officials also said that the building was on the city's dangerous building list.

Police cleared the area around the 104-year-old building because there was concern about collapse.

No injuries were reported.

The building contained on the lower level the Wah Mee Club which in 1983 was the location of the infamous Wah Mee Massacre. The upper floors have been vacant for around 30 years and, once existing as a mix of SRO hotel and multiple illegal casinos, really served as a decaying time capsule to the neighborhood's past. Sad for it to go this way.
