i'm a total BM n00b, but in terms of current USBM, krallice is pretty dope. mick barr from orthrelm/crom tech/octis is in this band.

I absolutely love Wolves in the Throne Room - I think they were touring with Boris last year - can't believe I missed that.

Recently I've been on a Nachtmystium kick when it comes to USBM, though. Any other Blake Judd fans on here?

Gracias. I've heard of this barr fellow and wittr but, slack as I am, have not yet checked (like with that Jay Reatard blood visions album... thanx btw, it's great...). Also been meaning to check the bm stuff Fernow is involved with (I think there's some?). Last year I was digging on Bone Awl but haven't scored more than like 3 cassettes and that double 7" on Hospital. It's all compounded by the fact that my buying habits are also entirely vinyl, simply because I still still still don't have a working CD player hooked to my home stereo, and so much BM vinyl is so fucking limited that it doesn't actually exist.

There's a post-Weakling group called Asunder... heard one track on an Oaken Throne comp, and it's good, similar charred and extended vein. I've gotta dig that mag up and get some picks outta that...

I have the same problem with j-jazz, which is why mp3 blogs are my best friends. for BM in particular, the following are good places to start

            bloodistruth.blogspot.com
            theblackhorde.blogspot.com

oh, god! Was "involved" in the black metal scene x years ago - funny how it's gotten this far with black-metal-blogs! Got some Norwegian Black Metal-CDs laying around if anybody listens to it and wants 'em.

You know, I could never get into Mogwai. What am I missing? Was it a certain time and place that made them relevant or what?

young team floored me when it came out. at that time post-rock was still gaining ground as a new genre and mogwai was among the best. can't tell you how many times i used to just put "mogwai fear satan" on repeat.

i was a huge fan of all that early mogwai stuff (ten rapid collection, young team, 4 rapid ep, no education=no future ep) up through the ep+6 they issued in '99 and probably still am if i ever listened to that stuff again. unfortunately, to my ears they've been worthless ever since '99 with the exception of the my father, my king ep.

Thanks, sam_tem. Maybe I ought to give that older stuff a listen.
