i think actually, that this was the different between the east coast and west coast scenes. east coast bands grew out of straight edge high schools, west coast bands liked blow. no one ever started a fight at an elements of need show, justin went on springer after coking up.

don't get me wrong, i loved both coasts equally, but IN VERY DIFFERENT WAYS.

speaking of jehu, and um yeah people still love them
i have the joy of having a studio right next to a dude who masters deerhunter, animal collective, etc...basically hip fucking dude and i opened my door one day and rick was coming toward me because obits his new band was mastering their shit and i had a small heart attack before chatting him up and dragging him into my studio...and then murdering him.
One wonders where it will end, when everything has become gay.

The best of the BBC, with the latest news and sport headlines, weather, TV & radio highlights and much more from across the whole of BBC Online

normally i hate mixes like this - but 420 song intros in an hour - at least you cover a lot of ground.

and - some of the sequences are pretty amazing - for example:

JANE BIRKIN - EX-FANS DES SIXTIES
SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES - HONG KONG GARDEN
XTC - MAKING PLANS FOR NIGEL
            SONIC YOUTH - KOOL THING
            NIRVANA - BREED
            LAURIE ANDERSON - O SUPERMAN
ART OF NOISE - MOMENTS IN LOVE
SEXUAL HARRASSMENT - IF I GAVE YOU A PARTY
            DEVO - WHIP IT
            MOUNTAIN - MISSISSIPI QUEEN
            PANTERA - I'M BROKEN

2 Many DJs fill in for Rob Da Bank on Radio 1 and craft a one-hour mix composed solely of 420 intros. They're calling it "Introversy."

Radio 1's leftfield show - techno, bleeps, ambient and acoustic.

i saw hecker at the old issue project room, back when it was still in the grain silo, and it was amazing...one of the best lap top performances i've ever seen - up there with fennesz. one of those odd shows, where yr staring at a person sitting in front of a laptop, yet the sound is doing all the movement, totally engaging with the audience.

hands down one of the best live musical experiences i've ever had...which is why i was happy to be out of town during his recent shows at le poisson rouge - i heard it was awful. not necessarily because of him, but that space is terrible...so loud, people eating...it's the worst. the wordless music festival really needs to get their shit together and start booking elsewhere. the church on the upper west side was really nice...they should have stayed there.

i think the hecker/baker record is okay. there is one track on it that i love...but it's kind of sub-par for both of them. then again, i'm not a huge fan of aiden baker or nadja. i do think hecker is best of genre though...although i do find his forthcoming release on kranky to be a bit...flat. it's very polished...lacks the catharsis of his earlier work. his high point for me is still "harmony in ultra violet".
he's still one of my absolute favorites.

                      ok, back to grant writing.

I could listen to Tim Hecker pretty much everyday for the rest of my life and be okay with that. Haunt Me Haunt Me, Do It Again has some of the best tracks I've ever heard in this genre and I love the sort of "glitch" vibe that predominates this album (My Love Is Rotten To The Core almost takes it to an abrasive/jarring level, though).

Really loving Flying Lotus' Los Angeles right now. That and J Dilla Donuts are playing all the time, lately.

Harmony in Ultraviolet... that is a holy grail right there. Anyone has one they wanna part with? Ill pay good money. Awesome renditions.

Just listened to Manyfingers - S/T again.. I always expect it to win me over a bit more but then always slightly disappoints. Now I put on Tim Hecker - Radio Amor.
