Continuing the TG conversation -

I went on Tues evening and despite the lights being on in the room the entire time, I thought they were fantastic. I'll admit, I had low expectations and walked out pleasantly surprised.

Missed Emeralds and was bummed on that - I love those records. Like the non-folk version of Mountains. Heard they got the shaft from the sound guy - that he turned them down. I know from experience that a lot of sound guys are ordered by headlining bands to do that. It's also a common happening at the Masonic Temple - I saw the same thing with Mastodon/Neurosis last year. Not that Mastodon being as loud as Neurosis would make me like them.

I'll fully confess that the whole event made me really want to see Wolf Eyes again. They're hands down one of my favorite live bands of all time, especially now. Never been disappointed by them, ever. They're also a heck of a lot smarter than they let on...amazing use of space, tension and restraint in the more recent times I've seen em.

Re: New Xasthur - look a few pages back to see our trepidation regarding that release. In brief: how disappointing his last record was in comparison with how awesome his earlier stuff was. Let's hope he's back with the drum machine. Or at least hired a real drummer. And learned how to mic live drums. There's lo-fi production...and then there's just bad production.
