I got No New York on vinyl for my birthday from a friend and i've been listening to it non-stop since. Also some Fake Can Be Just As Good from Blonde Redhead.
When it came out, it totally blew my mind. When someone like this has been writing amazing poetry for 30 years, you don't expect something this strong so late into their career, but this maybe his best album ever.

i would argue that this distinction goes to the future which if you think about it is also very late in his career. i didn't like 10 new songs at all when it first came out but after hearing it performed live and reading your praises i'm going to revisit it. from what i understand his partner - her name escapes me - wrote a good deal of the album.

I was pretty dissapointed with it to be honest. I've liked parts of what Stripes and Raconteurs have done (latter is really hit or miss imo) plus I like The Kills even though I think they are quite repetitive, maybe its because I sort of have a thing for Allison Mosshart.. but, for some reason the Dead Weather album sounded really dull to me.

There are few okay tracks there, not a great album, but not bad either. Could do with some more variation.
It definitely is slightly lacking in the substance department, like all three of the kills albums. But then again The kills have always been style over substance...
slightly related: I like mosshart's trashed DH boots...
