Popping in to pay my respects to Mr. Chilton as well. Just a couple weeks ago was drinking w/ some acquaintances wearing an old Commonwealth Stacks "Alex Chilton - Soul Deep - Memphis, TN" t-shirt and a dude asked me who he was... thought he was just a "guy from a Pixies song". So sad...

Gonna be busting out the 3 Big Star elpees and Like Flies on Sherbet over the weekend. Probably wind up listening to his production work for the Cramps and trolling the net for used Panther Burns albums...

The performance on 7 Nov 1980 was for press only, and was planned as the grand opening of the A&M Chaplin Memorial Studio in Los Angeles. It was broadcast live via satellite, in USA and Japan. The version they played of Tong Poo was the so-called Akiko Yano "version" that is on her album GOHAN GA DEKITAYO (her album had just been released the month before). The audience starts applauding after about 30 sec. into Tong Poo, because some models were doing an Issei Miyake fashion show during the song.

That's pretty funny - yeah, definitely didn't listen to the whole thing at once yet but I've been enjoying putting it on every now and then recently. I've been listening to it in the morning on the way to class.
