Re: What are you listening to?

    Einstürzende Neubauten... Beauty

You see half the moon, its crescent, and one of the planets, maybe Saturn,

maybe Jupiter, in the early night sky over Berlin, through the windows of a taxicab,

    near Potsdamer Platz.

    You think: Beauty.

No, this is not beauty, maybe not, maybe, this is the rest of it, maybe not, maybe,

    the rest of beauty,

maybe not, maybe, what remains of beauty, maybe not, maybe, what is visible, certainly,

    uncertain.

Your arms would not be able to stretch as far as necessary to form an adequate gesture

for beauty (You know that, don't you?).

So, beauty remains in the impossibilities of the body.

Re: What are you listening to?

i saw jimmy eat world play to crowds of 6 people at least a dozen times. they looked like they would go nowhere forever. they just didn't have that underground edge. and then one day the mainstream came knocking at their door. now they're all multi- millionaires. nuts.

did you ever see them with christie front drive? i love that band. i remember when that dude eric richter from cfd was talking shit about how bands sell out like modest mouse and said he hated that shit. i wonder what he thinks of jimmy eat world since they were budz.

I tried to come up with a theme for today's music, but it didn't exactly work out:

Roxy Music - Avalon (not my favourite of their albums but still good)

Mission Of Burma - VS. (I could never get tired of hearing this)

David Bowie - Scary Monsters (...maybe my favourite Bowie album)

Tom Waits - Mule Variations (def feeling ol' Tom today - it was this or Real Gone)

Daft Punk - Homework (IMO a great way to change things up)

Volume turned up to 11 in the store today!

man, don martin 3. this thread is straight up back to the future flux capacitor stuff. my favorites from the whole florida scene were palatka and reversal of man. wasn't that band discount from florida too? they were pretty ok. i think the girl is in that band the kills now? weird.

also, the whole canadian scene was super sick too. shotmaker, union of uranis, one eyed god prophecy.

Tom Waits... The Piano Has Been Drinking

                            The piano has been drinking

                            my necktie is asleep

and the combo went back to New York

the jukebox has to take a leak

and the carpet needs a haircut

and the spotlight looks like a prison break

cause the telephone's out of cigarettes

and the balcony's on the make

and the piano has been drinking

                            the piano has been drinking...

and the menus are all freezing

and the lightman's blind in one eye

and he can't see out of the other

and the piano-tuner's got a hearing aid

and he showed up with his mother

and the piano has been drinking

                            the piano has been drinking

cause the bouncer is a Sumo wrestler

                            cream puff casper milk toast

and the owner is a mental midget

with the I.Q. of a fencepost

cause the piano has been drinking

                            the piano has been drinking...

and you can't find your waitress

                            with a Geiger counter

And she hates you and your friends

and you just can't get served

                            without her

                            and the box-office is drooling

and the bar stools are on fire

                            and the newspapers were fooling

                            and the ash-trays have retired

                            the piano has been drinking

                            the piano has been drinking

                            The piano has been drinking

not me, not me, not me, not me, not me
