fka twigs is a sun flare on the horizon for soulful electronic pop; her debut album's lead single "Two Weeks" is a sudden flash of brilliance. The video rules, too. On the fashion front -- look for her to be a sought after commodity for designers, and their clothes, and their runway soundtracks.

This video is directed (brilliantly) by Nabil, and the LP is out soon via the ascendant LDN label/movement Young Turks.

            good song.

You should check out the EP by arca i posted earlier in the thread if you haven't already. He produced the entirety of twig's EP 2 (which is also really good).

Thanks apathy -- co-sign arca 100%, absolutely. Can't wait for the debut LP from him. Meanwhile, FKA twigs has another new one as of today, called "Pendulum," which you're bound to love. The production washes, stutters, and swells, her voice is everything. FKA's whole thing is unusually considered, and magnificent.

Here's Sufjan Stevens's just-released cover of avant garde cellist/downtown NYC post-disco pioneer Arthur Russell's classic gem "A Little Lost."

It's a heartbreakingly beautiful song in its original instance, and it brings me joy to hear Sufjan -- someone I've long considered to be Russell's spiritual successor in that both are compositionally oriented, incredibly lyrical, and balance headiness with transcendent emotion -- pay tribute.

Arthur passed well before his time due to complications from HIV AIDS, but broke so many boundaries while he was here. So, it's poetic that Sufjan's cover is for the Red Hot Organization, the non-profit "international organization dedicated to fighting AIDS through pop culture."

Sufjan's take is less like his masterful run of LPs Seven Swans, Michigan, and Illinois than his more recent experimentation with full-band jazz-fusion delay-pedal electronics, as seen in his 2010 releases Age Of Adz and All Delighted People (which also are masterful in their own right).

Anyway, this post wouldn't be complete without Arthur and his magical cello on the original record, so here you go:

If you're new to Russell, check out The World Of Echo, The World Of Arthur Russell, and for some serious post-disco fundamentals, his singles "Go Bang" and "Let's Go Swimming."

                      RIP Arthur. Thank you, Sufjan.
