Seen yesterday Béla Tarr's The Man from London. Enjoyed a lot this non narrative, non psychological and non anthropocentric movie : Bresson + flesh and blood.
Tarr is one of those you haven't forgotten that cinema is an art based on sonorous bodies moving in space.

Waking in the middle of the night in a antihistamine fog, I turned on the tv and watched Foul Play 1978, Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. I it and watch it every time it is on. It is the perfect cant sleep movie.

started watching Young Mr. Lincoln this weekend but 20 minutes in i had no interest in watching the rest of the movie.

i did watch the Last Wave this weekend though and enjoyed that quite a bit. i think i fell asleep a bit in the middle of it, but it probably worked to the movie's advantage because by the time i woke up soime crazy shit was going on and the rest of the movie felt like one bad trip. the late 70's moody synth soundtrack works perfectly in the movies favor.

I am bummed that The Road release was pushed back to 2009.

just got back from Quantum of Solace....was expected to be blown away, by what exactly I don't know (no pun intended)...but it was alright. I mean, it's an action movie...somehow the IDEA of Bond, or a new 007 flick, appeals to me more than actually watching Bond now. Don't get me wrong though, Craig is badass, and the Russian girl is alright if not for the fact she reminds me, looks-wise, a bit too much of a girl who rejected my drunken advances last weekend :(

If this Bond is anything like the last Bond movie, which was uber shit, then it will be super-uber-shit. God, the last one was so fucking terrible, I still can't get over it, lol.

I dont mind the new bond movies. But you have to separate them from the old ones. It will never be like it was with the amazing Mr. Connery. No one will ever be able to touch that and never has in my opinion.

But I do like the idea of thinking about the character in a new way. He is rougher and more flawed, which makes sense now.

Faust if you didn't like Casino Royale, don't even bother with QOS.

Yes kira, i loved Casino Royale precisely because of the reinvention of the whole Bond image which was becoming more playboy/fashion model towards the Brosnan era, the guy did not look like a convincing killing machine.

Craig brings some refreshing gravity to the role, and what I liked about CR was, along with the removal of Bond cliches like "Bond, James Bond" and the obligatory martini request, we got to see a Bond who was probably closer to the Fleming creation, someone whose past was basically nothing and is catapulted into a world of espionage and intrigue. He was rough around the edges, and made killing look like what it probably does - something that involves struggle and emotional conflict.

However, what was really lacking about QOS is, there is virtually no sense of personality about any of the characters; the script hardly gives room for the story to breathe and flesh out convincingly. Craig's portrayal is even harder than in the last one, and perhaps understandably so, but I can't help that he is taking himself a bit too seriously, too stiff in the role. CR still had some traces of wit in its dialogue, this one is just a nonstop series of action scenes loosely tied together as a story that one never really gets the grasp of. Not to mention there isn't any chemistry between Bond and anyone else in the film, let alone the Bond girl. Vesper/Bond was better.

That said, I must admit that while Craig is one of the "better" Bonds, I had more fun watching the Brosnan movies.
