I think it's because they insure the item for the full amount and usually ship it 2-3 day.

Yeah it's the 2-3 day aspect of it. I just tested it out on fedex.com just now.

They do jack you on shipping. When I ordered my carpes last year it was shipped ground and 48 dollars hahaa.

I used to arrange for a lot of shipping at my old job and that is just astronomical, seems they make money off shipping too.
