I agree. Chrome Hearts strikes me as the stuff that people in the midwest wear when they go out to a dance club on a saturday night except it's expensive. AKA is really the only person who I've seen pull it off but to me, it's an anomaly as to how that aesthetic fits into anything else discussed on SZ.

I try not to judge. I'm into shit that nobody likes at times so I respect the urge to buy something expensive that's kind of questionable but visually, in context with the rest of the minimalism and things like anatomic cuts and simple palettes, I just can't make it mesh in my mind.

The last few pages of this thread have been hilarious.

I totally agree with beardown's dissection of CH. I think their jewellery only looks good when you can't notice anything other than it's silver and chunky. Or when it's saying something offensive.

bah, always the same discussion...cant we agree on:

                1. CH on clothes = fail
                2. CH jewellery, overpriced but awesome?

bahahahaha...strange enough that i get constant compliments on my CH jewellery and i honestly think it looks awesome...on many people, e.g. Kurt from KH Comme des Garcons (who introduced me to CH), Tiger, Aka, at least 3 other people i have seen at the SZ magazine party, and half of the Japanese buyers during Paris fashion week...

The "abuse" by whatever midwest cowboys might happen since they are big and greedy now, nevertheless...

Maybe there's some miscommunication. I'm talking about the overall identity of the brand, the gaudiness of a lot of the excess flair and the the costume like feel of some of it. And unfortunately, yes, a very popular aesthetic of the average midwesterner heading out to a big night at the local watering hole, thanks to MMA fighting sponsorships, etc.

AKA can get away with wearing the Givenchy Rot t-shirt too and not many can really pull that off so I'm not speaking in terms of those who specifically like it vs. those who don't. I'm talking the aesthetic across the board, which leaves me a little confused at its popularity outside of the traditional status symbol.

i think you nailed it with the status symbol thing but i think at least something like ed hardy is authentic garbage as opposed to garbage masquerading as fashion

The reasonable truth is that in some circles, 'Affliction' is also a status symbol, no different than Chrome Hearts is in its circles. Just a midwestern perspective.

I think ultimately if you take the price tag off of anything, there still has to be some kind of inclination toward it to begin with.
