DBC and Servo, these one-off examples are fine and dandy, but I highly doubt that they reflect what happens en masse.

well, to add to the one-off examples, all of my uniqlo pieces have held up as well as anything else in my closet, and I'm not familiar with any horror stories on the contrary.

for me the designer decision has always been about aesthetics and "quality" as pertaining to textiles and difficulty of construction, not robustness.

On the fast fashion issue, I have no problem with it because of what Laika and Servo said, but also because many designers that people here love are so against movements like that within the fashion industry that those things inspire them to create high quality garments. In this way I see it as somewhat of a "you can't have good without evil" situation. If one half of a dichotomy disappears, the balance disintegrates and the other side ceases to exist.
