oh they're not very rough at all. the surface is raw, but the concrete is very smooth to the touch.

i have a standard one someone gave me, but i did buy a stick-on grip for single-handed shooting. i will send you the link when i find it. it's like $25 but a lifesaver. it shoots solid video too, btw.
