There does exists this interesting bias toward sunglasses, I've noticed – which tends to go into effect more when a person is wearing dressier clothes than if they're slummin' it in, say, a t-shirt & some old jeans. Despite their utilitarian function of keeping bright sunlight out of our eyes, they're still considered a fashion accessory – one which some people still see as gratuitous, even vain. Whenever anything registers in either of those ways (warranted or not), I think there's this tendency for people to judge the wearer as trying too hard / too cool for school / "who do they think they fucking are?"/ etcetera, etcetera.

Doesn't help the situation any when nowadays, shades are blinged-out w/ logos so large you can read 'em from across the street & often priced higher than some used cars. Or when some attention whore celeb tricks themselves out head-to-toe in ostentatious pieces – then has the nerve to top it off hiding behind a pair of dark sunglasses. At night. Makes you wanna throw tomatoes.

I doubt you were dissed for not looking good in aviators. Sunglasses, in general, have kinda become a hated thing. My ex, I remember, hated wearing sunglasses. You could stick him on the surface of the sun, and he'd still decline. Some people just have an aversion to them. Negative judgments will always be made on the things people assign negative associations to, and I find that it's our accessories which usually top the list.

They look better on an older dude. Don't take offense. More his era.

Why do you think that?. I find they look pretty hot on younger dudes, too.

It's interesting how one person's perception of a particular item qualifies it as being dated, while another person may consider the same item as being timeless.

He rode a motorcycle in scotland in the 70's, but hasn't touched one since. I think he looks good in rick leathers, but I highly doubt I could convince him to wear one regularly.
