Mesko - thanks! About those AVs: I went from cursing He Whose Name Will Not Be Spoken Here for the lacing system to praising him for the incredibly comfortable fit.

Ladies, listen up: the low instep makes these AVs fit especially well on women (unless, of course, you have a high instep.) I'm sure the lasts are unisex and simply scaled down. Usually when the lasts are men's lasts scaled down, I have to go down a half to a full size, but these fit wonderfully.

I knotted the laces so that the knot is permanent. The laces can be adjusted to be more or less tight by sliding the knot left or right... without undoing them. This way I can slide the shoes on and off and pull the knot to tighten. I know some people hate tying laces -- especially on boots -- but there is always a solution for making it go faster.
