True enough. It's perhaps misleading to see the negative response to his fit and his flip-flopping as actually about those things--everyone changes their aesthetic at some point, sometimes quite rapidly and wildly. A generally pleasant and constructive member who had posted the same fits (and who lacked any reek of neckbeard sexism) would not have got the same reactions. At least not from me.

That said, someone declaring a new and heartfelt allegiance every week is bound to look ridiculous, even if they're otherwise so nice that's everyone is too polite to say anything.

1) As you astutely pointed out I have, in reality, no deep enmity for R&J, I just have had enough of people using "respect my opinion!!" as an argument. I certainly don't, we're arguing certain things and you have to have the humility to see where your intellectual edifice just doesn't stand on its own. If you want to keep on arguing a point you need to lick your wounds and come back with a new angle, otherwise you need to be publicly shamed.

2) Well there are ample studies showing a link between the narratives we attach to our consumption and the cultural capital they provide. As this forum perfectly demonstrate it is not enough to buy CCP, you also have to convince people of the purity of your motives. Doesn't change how you look though, which was the basic trust of my post.
