All the doughnuts have names that sound like prostitutes
And the moon's teeth marks are on the sky
Like a tarp thrown all over this
And the broken umbrellas like dead birds
And the steam comes out of the grill
Like the whole goddamn town's ready to blow...
And the bricks are all scarred with jailhouse tattoos
And everyone is behaving like dogs
And the horses are coming down Violin Road
And Dutch is dead on his feet
And all the rooms they smell like diesel
And you take on the dreams of the ones who have slept here
And I'm lost in the window, and I hide in the stairway
And I hang in the curtain, and I sleep in your hat...
And no one brings anything small into a bar around here
They all started out with bad directions
And the girl behind the counter has a tattooed tear
"One for every year he's away", she said
Such a crumbling beauty, ah
There's nothing wrong with her that a hundred dollars won't fix
She has that razor sadness that only gets worse
With the clang and the thunder of the Southern Pacific going by
And the clock ticks out like a dripping faucet
'til you're full of rag water and bitters and blue ruin
And you spill out over the side to anyone who will listen...
And I've seen it all, I've seen it all
Through the yellow windows of the evening train...
i'm surprised nobody's brought up the big three. sopporo, kirin, asahi.

You know the thing about these guys (and ichiban, tsingtao too even though the latter is Chinese) is that I don't see many people drink them outside of asian restaurants. Neither I or any of the asians I know actually seek these out for home consumption... instead favoring something else.

They're delicious fo sho, but I can't kick it at home with a kirin the way I can with some Sam Summer Ale (damn I wish Mr. Koch would bring back the ginger honey ale :( )

I'll save the Kirin for the pitchers of it at Kenka's on St. Marks hehehehe

Of all the big Asian beers I like Singha best.

the sopporo tall bullet can is available at most of the dive delis around me, which saves me from drinking shit.

Definitely a good choice - I'm in the same boat mostly, with two saving graces - a beverage center a 3 minute drive that stock good belgian fair, and a grocery next to my subway stop that sell a six-pack of hoegaarden for $9. I don't think these guys know what they are doing, but I've never been tempted to enlighten them.
On topic - am I the only who doesn't like IPA?
No, I hate it too. I prefer almost anything to IPA (save American industrial rice beers). My preference these days is usually a nice Pilsner. Spaten usually does the trick and is easy to find at the store.

Oh yeah, that's good shit. My friend just got that for his restaurant down the street and now that's half the reason I go in there..

Oddly enough, my two favorites are IPAs and Pilseners...
