'High Fashion' what exactly does this term mean?
Last night my brother asked me if I was willing to spend so much money on clothes, why not spend it on high fashion (like LV, Gucci, Prada, etc.) instead of the stuff I buy. This made me wonder what the term high fashion actually means.
The Princeton dictionary defined it as 'trend-setting fashion', which would suggest that the mainstream labels listed above would be considered as high fashion based on celebrity and media trends.
However, to be 'trend-setting' do you not have to first create something new and be ahead of the current trends? In such a case, wouldn't labels such as Rick and Julius be more of 'high fashion' than the mainstream labels?
Or maybe...it's ALL high fashion?..
