I'm a big fan of Guy Le Tattoer -- not ready yet to make the tattoo plunge, but a lot of these designs are something I'm going to think about for the future.

I am absolutely in love with this. Thanks for sharing. I have 6 larger tattoos on my torso, some can be seen in this pic

What is it about russian gangsters and compass rose tattoos? I was just wondering as a browsed an archive of russian criminal tattoos.

HWith, the stars often symbolise rank or "membership". As far as I know, 16-point stars (on the shoulders and sometimes the knees, as well) show belonging to the vory v zakone ("thieves in law"). The history behind them is pretty interesting; they only established themselves as an organization as a way to assert independence from authority while imprisoned in Gulag camps. There used to be a really good documentary up on Youtube about the tattoos called "The Mark of Cain", but parts of it were missing the last time I checked.

The compass rose tattoos were initially started by sailors (not sure if Russian in decent or not). It was believed that it would bring them good luck and get them home safely.

I also remember hearing somewhere that the points of the star can represent the number of years spent in prison. Not sure if this was specific to nautical stars though.

Well this might sound a bit stupid but I preferred the sound of 'by' and changed it a little to kind of make it my own coz I thought heaps of people would probably have this haha. I've thought about forearm before but wasn't sure if there was enough space there to do a descent size owl there (I am quite small).

Was thinking of something similar to this
