Seriously. Also, best opening sentence in all of literature.

one of my best friends is at a thousand and counting. i shudder to think where that leaves me. what if i'm not real?

this will all be just like the printing press or radio and values will morph in unexpected ways, outmoding yesterday's hesitancy, and suddenly in another few generations you're that conservative weirdo if you don't know everyone who's connected to you by ten degrees of separation.

that said, i did chuckle at that quote, because there's always that guy that adds you as a friend, and you can't for the life of you remember ever meeting him but choose to accept his invitation just so as not to potentially injure his potentially delicate feelings, only to block him from your newsfeed two days later when all he talks about is the goddamned edmonton oilers.

My ex did this to me, only it wasn't the Edmonton Oilers that tipped me off and it wasn't
2 days but over a year until I caught on. I'm slow like that.

Hey, it's not MY fault people stay madly in love with me for a very long time.
Of course it may've also been the double-digit age difference.

I think it is just terrible and disgusting how everyone has treated Lance Armstrong,
especially after what he achieved winning 7 Tour de France races on drugs.
When I was on drugs, I couldn't even find my bike.

              early to rise brings little wealth;
but early drinking's good for the health*.

              — gargantua

you'd think the first line precluded the second, but the trick is you just stay up boozing 'til the early morn.

“From the little reading I had done I had observed that the men who were most in life, who were molding life, who were life itself, ate little, slept little, owned little or nothing. They had no illusions about duty, or the perpetuation of their kith and kin, or the preservation of the State. They were interested in truth and in truth alone. They recognized only one kind of activity - creation.”
                  ― Henry Miller, Sexus

“People don’t like love, they like that flittery flirty feeling. They don’t love love - love is sacrificial, love is ferocious, it’s not emotive. Our culture doesn’t love love, it loves the idea of love. It wants the emotion without paying anything for it. It’s ridiculous.”

The ancient poets ne’er did dream
That Canada was land of cream,
They ne’er imagined it could flow
In this cold land of ice and snow,
                            Where everything did solid freeze
They ne’er hoped or looked for cheese.

                            —James McIntyre, Chaucer of Cheese
