Just got this album. I kind of prefer Dins, but I still really enjoy psychedelic kind of trip music that feels a bit greyer, a sounds that isn't as colourful as psychedelia would often connote.. And the unaffected voice is the black cherry on top.

Going through Mike Huckaby's Harmonie Park releases - makes deep sound shallow.

Was out in 2006, I believe. It's called Early Violence.

"On the one hand, the record under study—a compilation of the singles and castoffs of NYC quartet Psychic Ills—is unspectacular, a loose flotilla of sonic driftwood on only occasionally hypnotic seas. On the other, Psychic Ills' debut full-length Dins is better, if still not consistently arresting, and the look Early Violence affords into the apprenticeship of a journeyman band is enlightening, promising, even inspiring. " - Stylus Magazine

                  It's pretty good.

looking past whatever 4chan-generation humour can be derived from it, i'm sincerely curious as to what you get out of some dude talking about how you should buy his new record, yo. i'm no authority in such matters, but sometimes seeing this sort of thing gives me pause.
I assume you are talking about the Plies song i posted. I love hip hop and consider some of it to absolutely be art, but not surprisingly I don't count Plies in that category.

However I do genuinely enjoy listening to him and other "trashy" gangsta rappas. Some of it is nostalgia, as I tended to be friends with the gangsta rap kids in my sleepy MD suburb (for some reason they got a kick out of a whiteboy in tight jeans) and I've recently seen a bunch of high school friends over the holiday. Some of it is just that it is fun to listen to, the same way it can be fun to listen to whatever flavor-of-the-mont bubblegum pop song.

Obviously though I wouldn't listen to Plies to inspire my own art or study his magnum opus "Da ReaLIST" closely for deeper meaning, in the same way I wouldn't blast Scott Walker's "Drift" out of my stereo on the way to the 7-11.

I also think there is a Darwinian candor in much "gangsta rap" that is refreshing and unpretentious.

yeah, this was back when i was the house dj at brownies, and later at black and white...before the whole post punk explosion and carlos d.

but yeah, i dont know how i`d feel about seeing any of those bands, 30 some odd years later...part of what made them special was that sort of incendiary energy...i cant really imagine them projecting that now.

having said that, i skipped teenage jesus for that reason...and everyone said it was absolutely amazing...that it was exactly like how it was back then...mean, nasty, dirty, dark and edgy. kind of bummed i missed it now...but ive since heard that theyre going to play again...

pardon for my lack of punctuation...damn japanese keyboards are a bit quixotic.

i think teenage jesus played a reunion some months back in nyc, wonder if that felt equally strange, if not more so?

& your sets sounded fun, i'll put on atonal fest with that in mind.

FUCK YES! I'm gonna put this on right now...

BTW - there is VERT album (guy on mouse on mars' label I think; saw him in NYC some time ago - brilliant) based on Jarret's that is great as well...

                              EDIT: joey, that was priceless.
Well first off, I don't listen to the 'aaaahh weeerr awww bwaaaaaaaaaaak'... at all. I've been a faithful supporter of hip-hop music since the age of 11 which has resulted in a very close relationship to the genre. I fully understand that it's not for everybody to appreciate but calling it 'shit' just seems like a huge exaggeration. Remember, we're talking about something highly subjective here. What is 'shit' to your ears might be the very opposite to me which is why I also find your comment rather demeaning and stupid. From my point of view all musicians deserve to be respected as long as they do music they feel for and not sacrificing themselves at the altar of commercialism.

I've given up on actually discussing music a long time ago since it's nothing but pointless. I'm not in a position to change anybodys taste and they're in no position to change mine. I'm glad to give out recommendations for those interested but I see no reason to try and 'turn' people. You listen to the music you enjoy and you're very welcome to post it in this thread. You might not see me praise it but on the other hand I won't do the opposite either.

To answer your question straightforward, yes I appreciate it (the track I posted, obviously). The 4chan part only seems confusing to me so I'll just overlook that part, at least until you explain it further.

I must admit, I have not listen to this one!
But will definitely have a listen and buy if its that good,
But then again, I have yet to be disappointed with any of
