"He described this initial impetus as like discovering that they both were looking at the same intriguing specific tropical fish, with attempts to understand it leading to a huge ferocious formalism he characterizes as a shark that leapt out of the tank."

Tried playing Takayanagi - Lonely Woman and the Empty Set track on the last page together. Absolutely amazing.

The woman is no longer lonely, the set less empty.

While we are on the subject of Japanese virtuosos:

I want you to tell me who you are in your dreams. Who is there? And is it beautiful like music?

Saw the Entrance Band at the Satellite (Spaceland) last night. They always put on a rad show.

#1 debut of this year and certainly one of the best releases overall.

Hmm, angry is a tough one. But along the lines of aggressive/violent Michael Hersch comes to mind:

Also, Boulez was angry in his youth:

Basically anyone associated with the "new complexity" or "post-darmstadt" kind of composing is likely to have moments of violence. Also if you want to go a bit older Scriabin has some delicious moment of anger especially in his later piano works, start with Sonata 10.
