As in an absolutely standard wash?
I can say after owning dozens of pairs of raw indigo jeans...salt doesn't do a darn thing (in my experience anyway). Flip inside out and wash on cold (or warm if you're okay with a bit more shrinkage). Soaking will only take more time and not get rid of as much excess color. As bleeding is the nature of this type of over-dyeing though, you'll always have the issue, this will only minimize it.

^yeah, undyed bleached cotton. i did that too in high school chem but i have no idea why it works anymore LOL

idk if it would work on an Overdyed garment. The only reason I suggestsed salt is it works fairly well on denim..

This article explains why vinegar and salt are used in the process of dyeing, but why they won't really help after the process has completed. As suggested, wash with a detergent.

hand dyeing, dyes, where to, get dyes, buy dyes, companies, tie-dyeing, how to tie dye, buy, fabric

Naturally, they're your pants...so experiment if need be. I'm just rather lazy about this stuff and would rather just try to wash them once or twice before resorting to vinegar, etc.

I'd expect the Rick denim to be sanforized, so I don't even think it should shrink too much. Like others have said just wash inside out with some Woolite Dark if you want to keep as much dye as possible and see if that makes it any better before you go to salt and vinegar, etc...

i handwash my dark denims with arcane old timey soaps like dr. bronners. i don't know about the drkshdws, but my jeans hardly fade when I use this method. eventually they reach a point where it doesn't matter because there's so little indigo left, and I just throw them in the machine.

of course, crocking is kind of the point with overdyed jeans like that, so why are you even worried?

I have a CCP taped seamed jacket I would like to take out a touch. Is there a tailor in N. America that handles taped seams?

Anyone have the arms/sleeves of a wool coat tailored? Simple straightforward task or difficult?

Apologies for being late to the party here, but are these overdyed detroits in the recent discussion dyed with indigo and black, or just black?

I would think silk would be more absorbent, while cashmere more repellant...I'm not sure which would be preferred in that regard.

For folks who've handled both, which would you choose in terms of having the best "fit"?
