They look very different. Being less durable than cordovan doesn't mean it's not very very tough, it just means there's something tougher. Entirely possible you prefer the aesthetic of leather.

Anyways, I'm in desperate for a nice looking bag. I don't really want a messenger bag as I think I like the tote look more but I do need to fit a 15" macbook in it.

Any suggestions? Oh and black leather is preferable.

Ikea, or any kitchen store or a hardware store with kitchen equipment. some might only have smaller ones, Ikea has slightly bigger at least.

be careful though as the tips might be sharp. even if they are flat at the end like the Ikea ones, they not rounded at all and have sharp corners that will easily tear something.

I found "S-hooks" in the boat-section of a large hardware chain in Sweden. They had white plugs on the two ends that were just to take away and voilá.

If you don't find any in Ikea.
