Nothing wrong with a checked shirt - even though it's hard not to look like a slightly fat-bellied fifty years old man about to climb on his lawnmower engine to take a ride in his small, but beautiful garden, whilst his wife is absently handknitting and watching tv, remembering the old days, when he was thinner and used to play cricket on sundays - but with a shirt, checked or not, under a leather jacket. For obvious reasons. But I'll develop if needed.

To each his own checked shirt mental association. To me it reminds of the caricatural recycling of working-class garments (the French reference being "Les Deschiens" fashion, which has been very successful a few years ago among young Paris trendy people ). I'd really appreciate if you could elaborate on the unfortunate combo shirt/leather jacket. I can think of successful examples...
