I do like the top of the outfit, and the color of the jeans do match with top, but i have doubts on the cropped effect associated with the high top boots.
Same pair in black with long leg jeans and i'd just applaude.

I think you need to deconstruct your personal tastes a bit more, fellow. One doesn't really amass an avant-garde wardrobe of certain brands. Just as "indie" means hoodies and plaid, antlers and soft guitar, and not independent, "avant garde" doesn't mean black and brooding.

Keep working on your ideology, and not your closet fillins and you'll get there.

As you can guess I'm still learning, and this is the beginning stages of it. But, your right, I really want to understand the bases of the actual style that I'm trying to achieve, rather than just buying someones style.

Indie (postmodern) Avant-Garde? It's definitely very postmodern, especially that friggin' Fender shirt that makes me look all of 13 again.

I would argue against using such surface classifications, I agree with the thought that n(n) possesses the irony that "indie" style has, which is not deconstructionism, and probably not avant-garde, since it relies on the satire of predetermined symbols from fashion past (rock and roll, grunge, punk, whatever) but at the same time, n(n) takes all these old, done items and turns them into something new by use of some Japanese deconstructionist view so common in YY.

In short, what is important is the depth at which a designer (or fashion purveyor) is working, be it H&M surface level, relying on already established answerable styles, or at a deep level, only attained by the gruesome deconstruction or fashion. In shorter, n(n) is ill because it does both, like Shakespeare, they cater to both the low and the high, and people like you and me aren't left in complex skirts and thigh high sneakers.

That is an excellent frame of mind to be in, especially if your at a crossroads and your unsure of what works. I am still learning what works on me as well, so I can see where you are coming from

As you get more comfortable with what you wear your fits will improve, it looks like your playing it very safe in your pics IMO. As time progresses you will evolve, especially with the knowledge you gain from people on here
