First time eating calf cheek... Real German food steez today.
The calf cheek was super soft, and because it has very subtle marmoring of fat the sauce was perfect. Let some vegetables stewed with the calf... Yumyum.
Could've only eaten potato purree and the sauce.

down here in Texas stewed calf cheeks (slow cooked with a puree of garlic, onion and cilantro) are lovingly known as barbacoa. One of the most delicious things off of a 4 legged animal!

MoFiya: I'll have one order of the sole with marinated cucumber please! Sorry if I'm clueless here or didn't read the entire thread but are you a professional chef? That's some pretty beautiful food. I eat meat but don't really think about the killing part too much...visualizing strangling that pigeon makes me cringe a little

Nah, just a student who somehow likes to spend his time in kitchen when he's got nothing else to do ;-)
Well, tbh I don't eat that much meat either... Only like once or twice a week. And it's come to be sth real special if I do a bigger menu like posted before... I start planning and thinking about the combination of courses and all dishes matching each other and creating kind of a tension. So it's not a thing I do like every week...

Animal sounds and looks crazy, but in a good way.

I'm kinda tired of meat so I've been eating a lot of fish lately. Haven't had a steak in three months, used to eat one at least once a week.

Tried making sashimi at home today for the first time. Turned out really good. Only had salmon though, but the salmon was top notch. Used "Salma"-salmon which you don't have to freeze first, which is a must as I don't have a freezer(!). Will try other kinds of fish when I'm back home with access to a freezer and the sea.

                    Los Angeles Favorite foodie spots

Wow, just discovered this thread!!!! My love of food is slightly greater than fashion. OK...best eats for San Francisco:

                    For sushi:
Zushi Puzzle on Lombard. Must sit at sushi bar (this is a general rile for any good sushi spot)

                    Pho:
Turtle Tower in the Tenderloin. Get #9, the Pho Ga.

                    Chinese:
ABC in San Mateo, Just Koi in Pleasanton, Mayflower on Geary/27th, R&G Lounge in Chinatown

                    Dim Sum:
Hong Kong Lounge on Geary....expect 1 hour+ waits if you go after 1030 am.

                    Mexican:
El Tonayese Taco Truck in front of Best Buy on Harrison (must get the cebaza (aka: cow's head)).

                    Japanese crepes:
                    Genki on Clemente.

                    Ramen:
                    Tampopo in Japantown

                    Korean:
NONE this is horrible in SF. (and yes, I've had Brothers).

                    Greek:
Kokari. The flaming saganaki is the shiiiit.

                    Prime Rib:
House of Prime Rib on Van Ness.

My LA list for good eats:

                    Pho:
Pho 54 in Westminster (far drive from LA, but worth it).

                    Dumplings:
Din Tai Fung in Arcadia (expect 1 hour waits)

                    Mexican:
Everywhere. Yuccas Taco Stand in Los Feliz, Muchos Tacos at the car wash in Hollywood

Sushi: Nozawa, Katsu-Ya in Studio city

Chinese: San Gabriel on Vally. Tons of places to choose from.

                    Korean:
Taho BBQ. Alll you can eat for $17. Cho-sun, and Seul Garden...all in Koreatown.

                    Cincinnati Favorite foodie spots

                    I know...Cincinnati...who would think.

                    Chilli:
Camp Washington Chilli on Hopple St.
                    Goldstar Chain

                    Pizza:
                    Larosas chain

                    Indian:
                    Ambar India in Clifton

                    Sushi:
Mei...sub par for my standards, but good for Cincinnati.

                    Chinese:
                    Uncle Yips in Sharonville

WHITE CASTLES for burgers....damn, I miss those little bastards.

                      Lunch yesterday:

Grilled sea bream (starter was fish soup), bread, coke.
Fantastic flavor, grilled over charcoal with a little olive oil.

Served at Balik Lokantasi, located at the end of an alley with vendors selling hardware and electrical supplies, a block north of the Karaköy fish market. Istanbul has some great food - I also enjoyed Sofyali 9 and Ciya Sofrasi, but this was probably my single favorite meal of our week's stay.

I love Chinese food...and the boldness the dishes exude....but sometimes, I will just have to say "pass."

....However, this is a much different story. DELISH!!!

If someone wants to comment on a particular pic they can edit the quote. One oddity of forums is that quoting someone doesn't mean what you'd think. Observe above
