      /\
nah its all there on the new album of "I wont mention his name here":
Last verse of the track "Fashion Killa":

I see your Jil Sanders, Oliver Peoples
      Costume National, your Ann Demeuelemeester
See Visvim be the sneaker, Lanvin or Balmain
Goyard by the trunk, her Isabel Marant
I love your Linda Farrow, I adore your Dior
Your Damir Doma, Vena Cava from the store
I crush down with that top down, bossy see how I ride 'round
Mami in that Tom Ford, Papi in that Thom Browne
Rick Owens, Raf Simons, boy she got it by the stock
She ball until she fall, that means she shop until she drop
And Versace: got a lot, but she may never wear it
But she save it so our babies will be flyer than their parents
"Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the world and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that"

This is amateur level name dropping, here is how the pros back up a song with that fashion content:

Selling CCP, Harnden, Raf, Rick etc.

Elle doit être shampouineuse à Meudon ou VP-Marketing à Paris (même combat).

"Well, when I buy Rick Owens it's authentic. Not like them, they don't appreciate it the way I do!"

There are so many problems with this attitude I wouldn't know where to start, and would probably embarrass myself taking so much time and care unpacking it all.

And though I tend to avoid identity politics (they also involve the same scramble for authenticity), I think the contempt gurgling up here has legit problems involving class and race.

I don't know if it's race related but the reasons they have for buying rick or for their stylists buying rick are no more vapid than a lot of people here

The reasons I have for buying Rick are deep as fuck, in fact it isn't a choice but a realization of the ultimate goal of history through dialectical materialism (and bitches + dope).

I know, cause I live at the bottom. But, what do you mean - are you saying that mine was an implausible theory?

cool is a bit loosely defined in this context too - the picture of A**P in the controversial over-long ann demeulemeester tank a page or two back got maybe one of two stamps of approval and like 15,000 kids saying he looks like a "gay faggot homo cross dressing homo ass pussy bitch." sure theyre all 15 yr olds but that is his audience not sure how many cool points rick is actually getting him. he was technically better off in supreme and black scale.

i honestly dont there's a connection between rapper v. designer ethos and it's more rapper v. price point that they're focused on. jordans are what 200-300? rick sneakers cost you a G more than that so of course youd look like you're ballin a little harder than the dude in nikes next to you. it's a very marketable look right now and suffice it to say rick is associated with wealth and luxury to the lamen well before they associate deconstruction, the decay of old hollywood, brutalism, etc. i think it is interesting that these clothes are getting more attention, for whatever reasons arise, and the exposure opening up a cultural dialog. albeit en masse who it's being exposed to isn't focused on appreciation but rather excessive consumption.
at the end the people discussed wear rick sneakers for the same reason they wear diamonds in the shape of ice cream cones, shit is recognizably expensive.
