The disappointing thing for me is that a man of his standing and intelligence(I would of thought) could say such a thing.
You would think that growing up gay would have given him sympathy for marginalized minorities, especially ones that suffered under Hitler, which of course homosexuality was one of many.

And anyone who thinks that freedom of speech is more liberal in the US than France is seriously deluded - but that is another story...

Saw the front page of the Metro this morning (free paper on the London tube) and it showed a pic of one of the models with a Star of David tattoo on her upper arm... damage limitation fail. Can't find the picture unfortunately.

One of the dissappointing things about this episode is the resulting opportunistic slating of the fashion industry in general, and, of course, the hypocrisy invovled. A Sunday Times journalist commenting that the industry is populated by overrated amoral scum is not only hyperbolic nonsense, but, well, hypocritical (read anything Rod Liddle for reference).

What Galliano said was shocking - I was open-mouthed irl when I saw that video - but I do think that he may not have meant it, and if that's right, I do think that that may mitigate it. Bear in mind that, in response to the question "where are you from", he said, "your arsehole", which, anatomically speaking, is unlikely to have been the case, and, I'm guessing, and he probably didn't mean.
