soulshui: because you don't have a finely-tuned sense of irony (in the cosmic, big-picture sense), you're going to get ripped to pieces on western message boards. be careful out there.

No. That's why I mentioned it was my first thought.

I'm old enough and smart enough to not get jumped/injured for the sake of obliging the locals. And you really don't want to enter into any kind of discussion about literature or culture around here, even in jest.

Curious why you live there, it sounds like you hate it.

Because I'm not very social by nature, I have an amazing house here, the cost of living is ridiculously cheap, chicks are easy to impress here, my family is nearby, a lot of my friends are here, no traffic, the weather is nice and I'm within an hour's drive from 2 cities that I do like. I'm a 15 minute drive from an international airport and there's this stray cat I've been taking care of for about 6 years that would be crushed if I moved away.

I've lived in a lot of places and traveled through much of the world...each place has many things I don't like and some that I do. Ultimately, this is home for me and there's no place I'd rather be. I've been dealing with rednecks since I was a child...probably no different than living in an arctic region where you get used to the ice and cold. Just a little more offensive.

I like NY, LA and Chicago but I'd never want to live in any of those cities. It's more than enough to be there for a few days and then pack up and leave.

                          Basically like Williamsburg.

Beardown, I admire your zen acceptance of the Midwest. Though ultimately I escaped eastward, I look on my time especially in Columbus fondly when I hardly worked, lived like a king in a nice apartment and definitely felt the most fabulous on the block.
