NPR on the symbolism of clothing - specifically the hoodie in the wake of Trayvon Martin's death. Bit of a fluff article.

On Friday, Geraldo Rivera said on the Fox & Friends TV show that "the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin's death as George Zimmerman was." Rivera warned parents not to let their children wear hoodies — unless it is raining or they are at a track-and-field event. He said it sends a sinister signal.

"You cannot rehabilitate the hoodie," Rivera said. "Stop wearing it."

So that situation isn't the result of a culture that has done everything possible to justify racism, a right wing media that encourages constant fear and disinformation, an organization that encourages people to shoot first and ask later. It's because the kid was wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

You have Fox News that has done everything possible to whip the ignorant people of this country into a violent frenzy and then when shit like this happens, they blame everything else except the people who are praying for it to happen.

We are living in the age of the de-enlightenment where ignorance is celebrated and fear is considered a natural response to anything or anyone that is 'different' and justifies the use of violence and hatred.
