I'm traveling very soon to NY and have a very long list of restaurants I want to go to, but need some recommendations for good street food, it would be great if someone could help.

not all of these are street food per se, but close enough

Saigon Bahn-Mi - awesome Vietnamese sandwiches

Goody's - get the soupy dumplings to go

For gyro carts watch for the ones with the lines in front - that's a good indicator.

Mamoun's falafel - can be hit or miss since they got so popular, but when it's good it's wonderful

Mudd truck for coffee (these trucks are dispersed in major locations throughout the city)

For Indian dosas find the guy with the dosa cart on the south-west side of Washington Square park.
Where's a solid brunch stop in/around soho?
Jane on Houston Street. Better yet, walk a few more blocks to Blue Ribbon Bakery on the border of SoHo and West Village. Honestly, you don't want to eat brunch in SoHo with the LV crowd. Although, I hear that on a weekday, Balthazar's breakfast scene is quite entertaining.

                          Re: FOOD!

Just thought I would give everyone a heads up that there is a 10 page article on Alinea's chef Grant Achatz in the most recent (May 12, 2008) New Yorker. I'm only a few pages in, but so far it's great.
