Although I really can't imagine how utterly depressed von Trier has to be to conceive of the films that he does. I've seen much more grotesque and sad films, but von Trier's utter disdain for the human race is so twisted and unique in his movies.. I literally don't know how he thinks of these things.

It's brutal, smart, and uncompromising. Like all of his films, it's steeped in symbolism and great for discussion with friends afterwards. And like the rest of his work, people seem to love it or hate it (perhaps the mark of a master.)
The movie was visually stunning and the acting was great, but I thought the writing was bad and only got worse as the film went on. Trier fell hard into this "women are a part of nature" trope that distracted me the entire way through. I was cringing through the "I know things" part and rolled eyes at the pat-myself-on-the-back diatribe against the advertiser character.

          Help me out here.
I have been searching for a movie i saw a year or two ago.

A japanese(i think) horror. Something about a boy who was a son of a chemistry/medicine teacher. It was revolving around some experiment.

due to some circumstances i dont remember much more.

Watched Na Hong-Jin's sophomore outing The Yellow Sea last night, yet another excellent entry in the classic Asian cinema category "... AND IT ALL GOES TO HELL."

While it's a pretty bloated movie (2hrs 20mins) and some of the socio-political themes go over like a lead balloon as a chase-thriller it's incredibly bleak and nihilistic - those of you who enjoyed Na's The Chaser and other Korean cinema like Oldboy should probably give this a try.

An object in possession seldom retains the same charm that it had in pursuit.

No. It wasnt this kind of film you suggested.
Now that i think of it, near the end, on a roof/condo there was a gory scene with eye extraction or something in those lines.

Just checked out the 2012 Oscar nominations from the Academy and how could they possible NOT include Shame, Melancholia, Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, etc etc.

Other than The Artist, it's a nearly 100% Big Hollywood list this year. Really weak......end rant.

^ I concur. Money Ball for instance was OK, but when I head War Horse was nominated I was confused. After watching it my only thought was wow, that horse had some pretty thick plot armor.
I also have no idea why Tree of Life is up there but that's randomly awesome.
The music score nominations are a joke.
"The Hedgehog" is not up for foreign language films and Werner Herzog's "Into the Abyss" not up for documentaries?

An awful year of awards indeed.

Just watched Drive again. Such a good movie that also went under the awards radar........ Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan rocked. She's so bad ass this year!
