I agree with her about men on the catwalk
and dreams of men in beautiful suits,
i'll bite my tongue about the rest.
Glad you all like the thread, btw, i thought i was just indulging myself.
kompressorkev, nice post....I mean the ephemeral, the fugitive, the contingent, the half of art whose other half is the eternal and the immutable.

I find men on the catwalk unattractive.
I dream of an open fire and a man in a beautiful suit
who enters and sits down with a glass of whisky.

that's just not true, Faust, i know it from experience.
I think VB designed clothes more than fashion;
and one doesn't have to be preoccupied with fashion to have an
appreciation of clothes, or aesthetics, for that matter.
I think that's the kind of man she is referring to.......I mean the ephemeral, the fugitive, the contingent, the half of art whose other half is the eternal and the immutable.

If that's what she means, then it got lost in translation, because it certainly doesn't sound like it. I think of muuma when I think of her ideal customer - his style is almost preppy, deceptively conventional, but it would be wrong to say that he doesn't care about fashion. To even know who VB is is to care about fashion. Otherwise it just doesn't register on people's radar. I know that ideally she designed for a man like that, but I just don't think he exists.Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months - Oscar Wilde

Maybe it's a man who is aware of fashion,
but doesn't think about it all the time--
or wants to appear like he doesn't think about it all the time.
I imagine Raf is this sort of person (occupation withstanding)
when it comes to what he wears, and i can see him wearing a lot of this stuff.......I mean the ephemeral, the fugitive, the contingent, the half of art whose other half is the eternal and the immutable.

That I'll give her. Anyway, it was just probably awkwardly phrased or not well though-out, but I think I understand what she's trying to say.Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months - Oscar Wilde

actually, she didn't write it--
it's Oscar van den Boogaard as Veronique Branquinho
from "Moi, Veronique," in A Mag.

I see. We need to thoroughly analyze this from a philosophical, literary and anthropological perspective tomorrow. Or not.Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months - Oscar Wilde

i think MMM and dries and schneider fit the niche better than VB.
