I guess it's a good time to break the news, since we touched upon it anyway. Next season Layer-0 will be releasing a collaboration with Maurizio Amadei - footwear made of leather they buried (10 years ago, I think) in soil. Epic potential.

So Amadei has the right to soil Carpe diem corpses? He was responsible for all leathers?

I thought there were two new Layer-0 collaborations: one with Altieri (Avantindietro_Field), another with Amadei. But One is more than Zero.

haha, their names are incredibly easy to mix up. I saw Amadei, "read" Altieri, and didn't even realize there was a mistake. I did a similar mistake myself when interviewing Amadei

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is the purpose of the treatment?

I'm tempted to think there is no purpose other than to make it more "exclusive" and therefore expensive.

Burying fabrics is no new concept. Hussein Chalayan buried his entire graduate collection with iron fillings way back in '93. The iron fillings slowly rusting and decaying, leaving beautiful stains, colour variation and of course some decay.

I've tried to research about boar hair used as a thread but have been unable to find out anything either modern or traditional. I do know that boar hair (being stiff and semi-thick) has been traditionally used as a needle in shoemaking though. I'd imagine any knotting of the hair would not allow it to pass through the leather easily either when sewing.

I've just caught up with the WAYWT discussion and I'd definitely urge people to look at Layer-0 boots. The ones I have use Guidi leather, and what I love about them (and a lot of others I've seen) is the strong structure of the toe so that like some a1923 and bbs boots it curls upwards. I haven't had any issues at all with them and I've worn them a hell of a lot, so quality to me seems pretty good, and have to admit I went for them as they were about £200-£300 cheaper than a1923.

Harvey's has a huge selection, had a good look at it last year and am going out to Berlin next week so might have another look because it isn't easy to get access Layer-0. Stockists are listed on the website but the majority aren't webstores, and those that are don't necessarily stock a lot of footwear.

Brings me onto my question, what do folks think of the clothing from Layer-0? I saw some in Layers a season or two back and was pretty underwhelmed but it was mostly jeans, it just didn't really slap me round the face like the footwear does.
