So this is super random, out at a bar just realized from a cocktail
I wouldn't mind a fragrance that has lime and ginger, but with some sweetness. Maybe this is far fetched, but there appear to be many knowledgable people here.

Jogu - the scents you mentioned are on my try list. I want to try Dzing, too. Do you want to go fragrance sniffing this week? Maybe tomorrow? We should consider going in on fragrances together in the future, too. I've got all the decanting supplies and everything here. (If you can't tell, I have an obsessive personality, heh.)

Mmink from Byredo is nice...very peculiar and synthetic, but interesting. Not sure if I could wear it all day though.

While you're at Barneys, ask if they have any Aesop fragrances left...I think they stopped carrying them, but worth a shot. Mystra and Marrakech, both all natural and lovely, similar to the Mecca Balsam you were mentioning.

Ginger is tricky...the only one I really appreciate is Un Jardin Apres La Mousson by Hermes...which is melon and ginger. An easier to find ginger option is Guccy Envy (for men).

Not a diss. It's great for what it is... just not special, I suppose. But I know you like monochromatic scents, if I may put it that way, so it works. Definitely better than that I Hate Perfume slush people beast over. Personally, I prefer the Sequoia more, if you want to have your morning wood from CdG.

Just curious. Who are these people who beasts over or
raves about his scents, most of you around here sound
                  rather negative?

Ok, maybe I should have read the thread before asking.
Bottled memories is definitely a good description.
Anyways I'm quite fond of the one scent I have from him,
                    as I have already mentioned.

been trying out the pentachord series from tauer perfumes (nose: andy tauer) and verdant might just be my favourite of the bunch. minty, earthy (as in dirt), leathery, smokey...
definitely an acquired taste. i especially like this particular negative comment from a buyer on the luckyscent site "...it smells like an animal carcass rotting under a shallow grave of moss covered soil". hey, that's not necessarily a bad thing, yes?

citrus and tobacco thats a tough one for me , cant even rly think of much offhand that would have those accords where theyre dominant enough to be noticed when theres prolly a bunch of other notes flyin around . i think l'eau du navigateur ( from artisan ) has some slight orangey citrus and somethin coffee like and hints of leather . me i dont like it , i think its too strong but like i mentioned b4 frags smell different on everyone based on their chemistry etc .

someone earlier asked bout somethin lime and cocktail like , i recvd some vials of the new artisan one called batucada that smells real nice and light and beachy as in cocktails with lime on a beach imagery . i love limes and i liked this new one at 1st but after maybe 30 - 40 mins it was too sweet and i got realllll sick of smellin it . im like that about figs also , somethin bout figs smells good at 1st but then i feel vomitty real soon and i have to wash them off or walk away from whoevers wearin it . 1 of my fave lime frags is the cdg lime , smells fizzy and bright and limey , not much complexity but its only like $50 i think and comes in a small ass bottle to carry round and spray throughout tha day . the hermes one dane mentioned garden after monsoon is a GREAT one , in fact of the hermes garden series that one is my fave . real light but not necessarily mild ginger and cool sweet melons

Lime and cocktail-like: that's definitely something Jo Malone would have, if not in infinite versions. All her scents smell like sweet cocktails, no? Since everyone is on the oud-train these days, she's also put a line out using a really weak oud as a base note. It's "pretty."

Question: Can someone who has smelled both the Byredos Oud Imortel and the Mona di Orio Oud Intense tell me their thoughts? It'll take something really special to get me to go anywhere in my car between now and 12-25-11.

A note - tried the Durbano Crystal Rock already and thought it was a little too ashy and cloying at the same time. Not a great mix for me - I'd take Jaisalmer over it any day.

And Merz - I think you should keep looking. I swear you could come up with something more...mysterious than a watery grassy-lemony spice scent. I think you should go for something really surprising and dark. Furry, wet and cat-like would be apt. The sickly, sweet iris I wrote about above (Amouage V) is very you. Anything that smells like a musty library is good in my opinion, too (though the CB I Hate Perfumes Library smells as if it were on Copacabana beach...)

But then again, you are truly a person of habit so...surprise us.

                            OK Lime Cocktail:

Try the Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Nil - I've got a huge bottle of it. If who ever asked for it wants a little spray bottle, I can make one and send it along.

Jo Malone: Lime, Basil and Mandarin Cologne. Sorta Mojita-like.

Guerlain's Vetiver, although a bit old school, is rather nice, with a citrus opening and a lot of tobacco. Guess you'd have to like vetiver as well though...

Make sure you look for the square-frosted bottle:

The latest formulation removed much of the citrus. Also avoid any variations (Frozen, Extreme, etc.)

                                Some suggestions:
                                1. Tubereuse Criminelle by Serge Lutens (being added to the "export" line shortly)...smells like menthol/mothballs/gasoline...then flowers.
                                2. Nostralgia by Santa Maria Novella - burnt rubber
                                3. If you can find any of the CDG Synthetic series...Garage and Tar specifically, both are very harsh industrial smells.
                                4. Patchouli 24 by Le Labo. No patchouli that I can detect, but a great, smoky leather. Very humid and stale smelling...in a a good way.
