    Bill Maher for the win.

Why's that? Glamor is essential to his clothes and always has been.

You might as well be talking about Valentino.

If I was to walk up to a rack of Rick's clothing every season for the last decade and be asked to give 10 adjectives to describe any of it, "glamorous" wouldn't even cross my mind.

For me, luxury and glamour are not one and the same.

Moot point, anyhow, since Rick's idea of 'glamour' is all his own.

That said, my post was rhetorical. Let's leave it at that.

note: this is new, not the ro diary of a somebody that appeared a few years ago
"He described this initial impetus as like discovering that they both were looking at the same intriguing specific tropical fish, with attempts to understand it leading to a huge ferocious formalism he characterizes as a shark that leapt out of the tank."

"It started out as a talk and demonstration of movement explained in French, which I don’t understand very well – despite having lived in Paris for 12 years; inexcusable, really..."

              man, I stopped there.

I don't get this bickering over language - does anyone actually know what his level of understanding french even is? I only recall him saying he doesn't know it well, which could mean anything but I have a hard time believing he wouldn't know some basics.

But more importantly, why are we discussing a personal matter when the discussion should be about his work?

It's funny, no one would give a shit about the language skills of other designers discussed here. But then again maybe they aren't as popularized and idolized, and especially not as open about themselves, which of course makes it easy to jump to conclusions and criticize.

                  Agreed. Hence my post above.

For as eloquent and articulate as Rick composes and prides himself on it just strikes me as odd, AND the fact that he keeps bringing it up in interviews as some sort of act of 'expat aloof defiance'

It could just be an American thing. There's nothing worse than seeing American tourists in Paris or wherever complaining about the food, why no one speaks English and asking where the McDonalds is etc...

but to each their own. other designer's discussed here seem to have more of a modest sense of multiculturalism concerning language barriers...

                    anyway, back to kopping geobaskets...

LOL, come on, man, you are comparing Rick to an American tourist?

Exactly. Price and worth are mutually exclusive.

Is anyone else disappointed that he's "changed venues to calm everything down for a minute"? I loved his backdrops and theatrics. The Eiffel Tower backdrop does not really suit FAUN, nor did it MOODY.
