I think he can write a great script but never really liked him for his directing.
If you can find films by Dorota Kedzierzawska, "I Am" and "Time To Die", you should give them a go. She's one of the new generation directors that don't really follow the old polish school. I'm not saying she's phenomenal but both of these movie are better than Four Nights With Anna.

I watched "society of the spectacle" by Guy Debord (film version of his philosophy book of the same name). It's amazing how a critique of "capitalist" society can make such a compelling use of montage, softcore pornographic material and Hollywood classic films.

I added it to the DVD I'm making for Faust and finally remembered about. I'm at 3GIG so it shouldbe finished soon. There's a couple of rare stuff like a movie about Derrida, society of spectacle and Chris Marker films concerning Russia.

Thanks a lot, Fuuma. I would love to see that. I still haven't gotten to the book. Must wait til summer.

Watched Changeling. I don't know what it is about Eastwood's films that leaves me cold. They are righteous, moral, serious... and so fucking flatline. He always fails to take off that veneer of Hollywood polish that would make his films much more convincing.

He reads parts of the book verbatim and it is much harder to process through that medium, as images illustrates but also distract from the discourse. I really see it more as aural poetry coupled with visual inventiveness than anything else. I included a pdf copy of the english version of the book, let me know if I should erase that.

I'll try to zip it. You mail or mine might make it a harrowing experience.

Excellent choices . I don't know if either you or Faust have seen Isaac Julien's "Blak Skin, White Mask" but I think it would fit in perfectly with this DVD you're preparing.

Good idea, will try to find the movie. To be entirely honest I had never heard of them book and thought you were referring to Black God, White Devil.

One of the marker films on the DVD is this:

I always get a lot of stick for not liking his movies. I didn't like anything he directed and only liked him as an actor early on. He also now has only one facial expression. I've been on a set once where a director screamed at the actor to stop acting all Eastwood and show some emotion

I read a few articles on this, am interested. The director's track record is pretty curious...

Saw High Tension last night, absolutely terrible. The dubbed English with occasional French was a very weird touch...I get the sense Tarantino would love this movie as it is.
